Through the eyes of the soldiers, civilians and political leaders, Apocalypse details how the “horrible yet familiar” war led to the deaths of 50 million men and women across the world – with as many civilian victims as there were military ones.
The creators of the series have incorporated the most recent historical research into the series. With the use of previously unseen images, the series evokes many little known aspects of this conflict. The documentary also provides a true worldwide perspective to the War: from Europe and the Pacific, to North Africa and other regions that took part in this global conflict.
Made entirely of archival footage, the documentary features material from archives across the world, including many unedited home movies from soldiers.
