Jack: A Soldiers Story

Following on from his BAFTA-shortlisted Panorama programme Taking on the Taliban, Ben caught up with 24-year-old Lance Corporal Jack Mizon of the Queen’s Company, Grenadier Guards.

Jack was a hero in Afghanistan, honoured for his bravery after his involvement in some of the fiercest fighting in the territory that left two of his fellow soldiers dead and many more seriously wounded. But back home in the UK Ben found Jack struggling to readjust to civilian life and frequently involved in fights near his Aldershot barracks.

Ben followed Jack’s exploits for two months in Afghanistan and then back home as Jack was charged with assault and GBH, stripped of his rank, and faced the prospect of four years in a civilian prison.

  • I am on Part 2 of this, and so far I am a bit disappointed, since it’s mostly just a re-hash of deleted scenes from the first documentary… I would have thought they would have focused more on his out-of-military life. Maybe the second half will be different!

It does rehash past footage for the sake of those who didnt watch it. I think it complements the original well.
